Robert Smith came to Goodwill in 1981; he had just lost his job and he and his wife were about to have their first child. Smith was willing to do any job; former CEO, Merrill J. Kinder, immediately hired Smith as a truck driver. Over the past 28 years, Smith has worked several positions within the organization before becoming President and CEO in 1998. Smith has a Bachelor's of Science degree in workforce education and development from Southern Illinois University.
