For Seth Davis, transformation didn’t happen overnight – but it began with a decision. After years of struggling with addiction that led to his arrest and four years of incarceration, Seth faced the same reality many justice‑involved individuals encounter upon reentry: limited employment opportunities and steep barriers to rebuilding a stable life. Rather than allowing his past to dictate his future, Seth chose accountability, growth, and forward momentum. With determination and the support of the right opportunity, he began creating a new path rooted in purpose and independence.
A Second Chance Through ICAN
Seth took a pivotal step forward when he began the Palmetto Goodwill I-CAN program on February 11, 2025. From the beginning, he embraced the program as a true second chance. Designed to support justice‑involved individuals through no‑cost skills training, paid work experience, and comprehensive supportive services, I-CAN provided Seth with the structure and encouragement he needed to grow both personally and professionally. His dedication culminated in his participation in the June 2025 I-CAN graduation – an important milestone in his reentry journey and a testament to his hard work.
At the start of the program, Seth was living in transitional housing and focused on achieving stability. Through discipline and financial responsibility, he saved his earnings and successfully secured his own apartment – without relying on additional housing services. This achievement reflects his strong work ethic, growing independence, and commitment to long‑term stability.
Growth, Leadership, and Workplace Excellence
Seth’s determination carried over seamlessly into the workplace. Upon joining the Market Common retail team, he immediately distinguished himself as a reliable, motivated, and adaptable team member. He cross‑trained in all areas of the store, consistently took initiative, and became a trusted resource for training new team members on both the sales floor and the register. His positive attitude and willingness to learn made him an integral part of daily store operations.
His efforts did not go unnoticed. Seth earned a promotion to Team Member III and was just promoted to a Team Lead position – clear evidence of his continued professional growth and emerging leadership.
Store Manager Joe Kapshuk shares:
“He is a hard‑working individual who takes on new tasks with enthusiasm and the willingness to learn as much as he can.”
Moving Forward with Confidence
Today, Seth is no longer defined by his past, but by the progress he continues to make. Through the I-CAN program, steady employment, and unwavering determination, he has built a foundation grounded in accountability, professional growth, and independence.
Seth’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when opportunity meets effort—and when people are given the chance to prove themselves. More than moving forward, Seth is demonstrating what a true second chance can look like.
