Fulfilling the Mission

The 2021 Shining Star Awards

January 1, 1970

Palmetto Goodwill is celebrating the accomplishments of six individuals who overcame obstacles and found success. Here are our red-carpet-worthy spotlights from 2021!

First up on the red carpet, we have Chelsea Spann – Palmetto Goodwill’s Graduate of the Year! Chelsea is deaf and speaks American Sign Language. In 2015, she took part in Palmetto Goodwill’s Ability One program which provides training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities. She faces communication challenges with a positive attitude. See for yourself, and watch her video!

The moment you have all been waiting for! Our Employee of the Year is … drumroll please… the one and only Angela Hess! An Employee of the Year does not just do their job – they go above and beyond. Exceeding expectations, Angela leads by example. She faces each day with kindness and determination. Way to go, Angela!

Next up in our Palmetto Goodwill Week of Fame, please join us in giving our Achiever of the Year a warm welcome! At age six, Kendra Scott was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, a red blood cell disorder that sometimes causes the body to be deprived of the oxygen it needs. Her condition can sometimes make everyday tasks unbearable. But that doesn’t hold her back. Rising against the odds, Kendra achieves whatever she sets out to do. Tune in to watch our very own superstar Kendra’s story.

Today’s Forecast: 100% chance of stars! Ricky Vaughns not only provides excellent customer service but is a positive influence on everyone around him. A key member of the Donated Goods Division, he is a great leader, as well as a motivational team member. We are excited to celebrate Ricky and recognize him as the winner of the 2021 Barbara A. Banks Award!

Lights, Camera, Action! Introducing … Jahmaal Pearson! A food service worker at Joint Base Charleston’s Dining Facility, you would never know about all of the numerous life-threatening surgeries and daily challenges that Jahmaal Pearson faces. With a heart of gold, Jahmaal is the type of person who touches the lives of everyone he meets. We are proud to honor Jahmaal with the Goodwill Works! Award. But don’t just take our word for it – watch his story here.

Denise Cyprian is always working hard behind the scenes. It’s only right that we round out our Hollywood Walk of Fame tour with her in the limelight! Volunteers not only help others but inspire them. We are proud to honor Denise Cyprian as our Volunteer of the Year!

Thank you for allowing us to roll out the red carpet this week and highlight a few people that make doing what we do so special!
